The township's fire department serves the city of Powell. The township has been renting office space, and the original fire station that was built for a then-volunteer department is now more than 30 years old. “The township has grown so fast, and we sort of came to a tipping point with some of our buildings.” “Having all three facilities in progress is exciting,” Newell said. Both contracts were approved not to exceed $400,000. Last month, trustees voted to hire the same firm that completed the township-hall and maintenance-facility architectural design – Springfield-based McCall Sharp Architecture in – to handle the work for the fire station. Having these two structures out for bid advances a significant facilities program in the township that includes a new fire station that would replace the original station on Liberty Road. Newell said he expects bids to be considered in October.
The township has completed the design phase for the building that will house administrative offices and a new maintenance facility and has advertised for bids for construction, trustee Bryan Newell told ThisWeek.
